How do you determine the resistance of a resistor for the Usb Data lines when making a Portable Ipod Charger?

I am making a Portable Ipod Charger and I need to know how to determine the resistance of the resistors for the leads going to the data line of the USB. My iPod Charger will utilize 5 volts @ 1000maH to charge the iPod.

If you are looking to charge a 1,000 millamp hour battery, you should charge it at 100 millamps or less. USB 2.0 can provide up to 500 mA. Use ohm’s law (5 volts – battery voltage)/(0.1) = resistor value, use at least a half watt resistor. For instance to charge a 3.6 volt battery at 100 mA ohm’s law gives the value as 14 ohms, this is not as standard value use the next highest standard value which is a 15 ohms resistor, 1/2 watt. I would suggest using a higher value to limit the current further. You can’t charge a battery greater than 5 volts without some sort of DC to DC converter. Whatever you do don’t short out the 5 volts coming out of the USB port. Good luck
